Protecting Computer Security Vulnerability

Computers are very complex machines and there is so much that has to happen for them to perform all of the functions they do perform for us on a daily basis. Of course computer programmers and technicians understand the ins and outs, but even those who know the most about computers will agree that no matter what you do there will always be computer security vulnerability.

While all the programs are running and the connections are made that allow us to do our email, work on a spreadsheet, make online purchases and do all the other tasks we do on the computer, vulnerabilities appear in the system which hackers and all types of malware can take advantage of to steal or tamper with the information that is there.

There are a lot of different reasons that computer security vulnerabilities exist, the most important of which is that there are simply so many different mechanisms used and so many different ways to exploit them. The top cause of vulnerabilities is coding errors. These can occur almost anywhere and working through them is a difficult process. Some languages are more susceptible to these kinds of defects, such as C and C++, and others, like Java are less so. Still there is the possibility of vulnerabilities occurring because of coding defects in all languages.

The purpose of computer security is to find the vulnerabilities and fix them or create software that protects them before hackers find them and exploit them. There are many different kinds of software, antiviruses, firewall, antispyware etc. that can prevent attacks at these points of vulnerability.

It can sometimes be very difficult to determine where the vulnerability lies and therefore to fix it. Honey pots are computers that are purposefully left vulnerable in order to catch crackers, or to locate vulnerabilities. This can be helpful in discovering where they lie in order to protect them.

Because we know that there is no way to prevent vulnerabilities from existing, it is imperative that we know how best to protect them so that we dont have to fear having information stolen or files removed or destroyed because of a malware attack. Also, because there are so many computer security vulnerabilities and so many ways for them to be used, we need to be sure we have enough protection.

Having good passwords and other types of user authentication is a first, and important step. Firewall is the next basic need and then anti-virus and antispyware and any other software that you need to keep your computer safe from crackers.

Many of the types of software to protect computer security vulnerability are available for free. Some of these are quite good, and others are definitely not good enough. Read reviews and look closely into what type you want to choose and whether or not you should purchase good quality security software.
